Britain’s Best Country retreats for 2017

Whilst newer hotels may have all the mod cons, I prefer a more rural setting with open countryside and lots of character.

No need to travel abroad when there are some wonderful locations right on our doorstep. Ok the weather is unpredictable but at this time of year we know it will be cold, so cosy up and check out the amazing options available. Here’s my pick of the best the U.K has to offer.

1.Soho Farmhouse

Set in the Oxfordshire countryside, Soho Farmhouse is a wonderful blend of old and new with eclectic styling. A part of the Soho house chain, boasting 8 residences around the world. Obtaining membership though can be a little tricky – you must be nominated by 2 existing members, although a stay at the Farmhouse is available to non-members too but at a higher cost around £330 for a cabin.

2. Gilpin Lake House

A Michelin star restaurant, breathtaking views and set across 100 acres within the Lake District its no wonder this place has won so many awards.

Costs vary from approx £300 for a classic room up to £500 for a garden suite. The main hotel is a mile away with free Chauffeur driven transfers to and from the Lake House itself.

3. Airds hotel

Set in the Scottish highlands of Argyll, I can’t think of a more picturesque setting during Winter months. As its Scotland, there may even be snow which would be an added bonus to the already beautiful scenery.

Although officially only a 4 star it’s rated 5/5 on trip advisor, a room here for the night starts from £215.

4. Celtic Manor

Set in the welsh countryside and having  hosted the 2010 Ryder cup, if you enjoy golf this is the place for you. The hotel has a 5 star rating with a luxury health spa. Plenty too for kids to do, making it a family favourite.

Rooms starting from just £90 means a stay here won’t break the bank either.

5. Lough Erne resort

In Eniskillen, Northern Ireland this 5 star luxury resort has 400 acres of grounds overlooking the Lough. Average price for a night stay is around £130.
